If you do a cardio workout the next day after a weights session at the gym, will this slow down muscle growth?

The playing football won't counteract the weight session but it isn't a pure cardio workout, the catching and kicking and all the rest that leaves you sore the next day despite you seeming to be in phenomenal shape means that after your HELLA weight session you did not have a rest day which means your muscle growth is slowed. Not reversed, which seems to be your concern but slowed. Muscles need to rest at least 48 hours for optimal growth.
